The food and drinks sector is one of the most important sectors of the Irish economy, currently employing about 40 thousand people, with about 85 – 90 companies in the north east region. This programme is designed to equip graduates with the skills necessary to pursue a career in the food and drinks industry. Because the industry is constantly trying to improve and promote the health benefits of its food products, this programme has recently been revised to put a greater emphasis on the link between health and diet and the importance of producing safe and hygienic food products.

The work is typically hands-on and practical, and involves working with computerised instruments and equipment.
The programme will provide a solid foundation in science as well as training in the practical skills required of technicians working in the sector. There will be scope for specialisation in food technology and food analysis, with an emphasis on quality food production.
